I just heard THUNDER!!!! Can I tell you how exciting that is for me? I haven't experienced rain in weeks, I mean a LOT of weeks. Of course, these clouds will no doubt split directly over my house leaving me under blue skies just as rain starts, but a girl can dream. Plus, as long as it stays overcast, the temperature probably won't get over 101, right?
Yesterday afternoon, I actually saw some lightening, but it never rained at my house. While I was at the gym, I noticed that Denton and Wise counties were actually under sever thunderstorm watches. What I wouldn't give for a good old fashioned severe thunderstorm watch. It is so sad to see so many brown yards and dead trees falling down everywhere. But the nice thing was that when I saw the lightening in the distance, I was in my car and it was still 104 degrees but by the time I got home the temperature had dropped to 99. Last night I went to dinner with Jenny and Mary and afterwards, it had cooled off so much that I sat out on my patio and had a glass of wine when I got home! Amazing!
I mentioned that I went to the gym yesterday, right? That is two days in a row for me. Of course, I canceled all of that work out with dinner and ice cream last night. But hey, it could be worse. I could have had the big dinner and ice cream last night without two straight days of gym activity. I did the full workout both days.... a full workout for me is 20 minutes on the treadmill and 30 minutes of circuit training. I like doing the circuit training because although I can't see a TV while I do it, it still keeps my interest since you never spend more than 1 minute doing anything. I finished yesterday's workout with 40 crunches on the machine from hell. I don't know the official name for the machine, but that is what I call it. 40 crunches in one minute is a record for me at least since I have been doing this. Maybe when I was a kid, if I tried, I did better. But as a fat adult, 40 in a minute is the equivalent to doing a half marathon. When I work my way up to 60 in a minute, that will be my marathon. The only problem is that the circuit is situated so that you go in a circle and so for the entire 28 minutes leading up to the machine from hell you see it sitting there mocking you and you know that in order to complete the circuit you must do that machine. I hate that machine. I'm pretty sore today. So I think today will just be a walking day. If it rains, maybe I will walk outside in the rain and just soak it up!
Oh for the love of Pete! How much more volleyball can they play in the Olympics? I haven't watched the Olympics in more than a week because I was tired of the constant volleyball, water polo and the stupid made up sports like trampoline and gymnastics where you run around with a ribbon. (What is with the ribbon? I don't get it....) But since it is all anyone talks about anymore I was feeling kind of out of touch so I decided to try watching it again. But here we are back on a volleyball court. They need to change the name of the Olympics to The World Championships of Sports No One Cares About. I mean seriously, before last week did you know the name of a single water polo player anywhere in the world? No, that is because you didn't know or care that people played water polo. I was hoping to see some track and field this morning. I guess that won't happen.
Here is some very exciting news.... at least it is exciting news for me. It probably won't mean anything in the world to you. But I just went upstairs and folded a load of laundry, moved a load out of the washing machine into the dryer and started another load in the washing machine. Do you know what this means???? I am finally doing the laundry that has been on my list since Saturday! Woohoo!!!!!! Now if I can just keep this going until all 6 loads are completed I will be able to take that off of my task list. If I get that done, do you have any idea what it could lead to? This would mean that there are no clothes in piles down my hallway upstairs anymore and I can vacuum upstairs!!!!! This is soooooo exciting. If that happened, I might be able to go for Gold in Olympic house cleaning. I know, it isn't really an Olympic sport. In order for it to become an Olympic sport, I would have to get a partner so that we could do synchronized house cleaning. I'm no fool!!!! Have a good Wednesday, I'm going to go see if I can find any people to join my synchronized house cleaning team. Keep your fingers crossed!!!!

Day One-Twenty-Six - These Are a Few of My Favorite Things!
Yay! My friend Katherine is back from her loooooong vacation and last night we got back together for our weekly chat at my house. She was actually back last week but I was at my parents house waiting for my A/C to be repaired, so we couldn't get together. We do this weekly thing where we get together to watch reality TV then we don't actually watch TV that much we just talk the entire time. I love it! Spending a couple of hours chatting with Katherine on a weekly bases is a really good time and kind of cathartic.
Being single and living three hours from my family means that I spend a lot of time alone. Since I currently don't work outside of my home, I spend even more time alone. I don't mind it. In fact, I have always loved being home alone. I like not sharing a remote control. I like eating whatever I want and not worrying about what someone else might want. I like enjoying a nice quiet glass of wine on my patio when the temperature drops below 95 degrees. I like a lot of things about it. But sometimes, it is just nice to talk to someone. And it is especially nice to talk to Katherine.
I think I spend a lot of time talking about things that annoy me and not nearly as much time talking about things that make me happy. We have already established that I am annoyed by ill mannered kids in restaurants, overly demanding cats, people who are obviously not visitors but who consistently park in a visitor parking space, air conditioner repairmen who do not actually repair air conditioners, and countless other things. But let's discuss some of the really great things in life..... like the amazingly peaceful sound of your air conditioner switching off because your house has reached the 78 degree mark set on your thermostat even though it is 102 outside! I LOVE when that happens! Wait! Here's another one.... When you get all of your stuff together and walk down to the pool and you have it all to yourself for two full hours with Jimmy Buffett blasting on the Ipod docking station and you floating around the pool just like it is in your very own backyard but without all of the upkeep! Greatness!!!!!
Okay, here is one that both annoys me AND makes me happy.... When I go to Central Market and have more than 15 items but not a lot more, the person who works there and directs customers to shorter checkout lanes always wants to send me to the express lane. Now, we established yesterday that I HATE people with more than 15 items who are in the express lane. So, I always say "thanks, but I'm fine right here". You see my thing is, I would rather relax in the checkout lane browsing through magazines than stand in the express lane and feel like everyone behind me is counting my items and thinking that I am either a) a clueless idiot who obviously can't read; or b) can read but simply under the belief that my time is more valuable than everyone else's. So, each time that happens I look down at the express lane and pick out the last person in line and then track my progress against hers. A lot of the time I make it out of the store before her. WINNING! Even when I don't get out before her, I'm happy to have taken a stand for keeping the integrity of the express lane in tact. :-) Just doing my little part to keep America great....
Here is one that happened to me yesterday. I went to the gym and did my 20 minutes on the treadmill and then went to do my circuit training and while I was on the circuit, not a single person came in to the circuit area and plopped down on a machine right in the middle of things and camped out so that I couldn't complete my circuit!!!!! It was terrific! It is so nice that some of the people in North Dallas are attempting to overcome their apparent illiteracy. God bless them all!
So right now I am being loved to death by Jingle. He has taken to cuddling with me each morning while I attempt to write my blog. Sounds nice, huh? Except that he curls up on my desk between me and the key board draping his head over my right arm. This makes it impossible to go from mouse to keyboard without disturbing him which results in an annoyed round of meowing and then him having to resettle himself which takes several minutes and is not pleasant for either of us. So, it will be easier if I just close for now. Have a great Tuesday and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Day One-Twenty-Five - A Look Back at my Sunday Dinner
I haven't been to the gym since I got back from Nacogdoches. I have to go today!!!! I must! This is me talking myself into getting my lazy butt in gear and doing something with this day. I will go to the gym. I will go to the gym. I will go to the gym. But first, let me tell you about what I cooked yesterday.
First a little background information. About a year ago, I bought a horribly expensive Mediterranean cookbook from William - Sonoma. I love cookbooks and am always looking for an excuse to buy a new one. My excuse for this one was that I have a tagine that I love cooking with, but there aren't a lot of tagine recipes out there. This book includes Moroccan recipes which means tagine recipes so.... I bought it! I still have not cooked any of the tagines in the book. But that is neither here nor there!
Then about three months ago, our dinner club went to this amazing Greek restaurant in Frisco. I have always liked Greek food since I first ate it in Houston when I was in my early twenties. But this place in Frisco was even better than I remembered Greek food being. So, now I have become obsessed with Greek food. If I find some Greek food that I don't like, maybe I will lay off for a while. So far, I haven't. So, Friday I went to Central Market and they had Gulf shrimp on sale. They were huge shrimp - 10 to 15 count! So I got two pounds wrapped separately with the intention of grilling one package on Friday and freezing the other package for a later date. When I got home from the grocery store and looked at the thermometer I couldn't make myself go out in the 107 degree heat and light a grill. So, I froze both packages and ate a pimento cheese sandwich. Saturday night I ate the last of my pimento cheese. By the way, next time you go to Central Market buy a container of their pimento cheese. It is excellent!
So, yesterday if I didn't thaw and cook one of those packages of shrimp I was going to have to go to the grocery store and buy something else to cook. I still wasn't up for grilling the shrimp so I decided to look through cookbooks and see if I could find an interesting new recipe for them. So, now we get back to the Mediterranean cookbook. (You knew I would eventually get back there, right?) Above each recipe in the book, is the country of origin. As of today, I have prepared two recipes out of this book. Both of them are Greek and both have been prepared in the last two weeks. The one I did yesterday was Baked Shrimp with Tomatoes and Feta. TO - DIE - FOR! If you are looking for something complex, it isn't for you. But if you want a simple shrimp dish and you like tomatoes, you will love it. So here's the recipe:
The book suggests that it is best served with a chilled white wine like restina and plenty of crusty bread for dipping into the juices. It was.
For the record, it was only necessary for me to go to the grocery store twice yesterday after I decided on this recipe for ingredients. Yes, you read that correctly, I went to the grocery store twice yesterday to make something for which I already had the main ingredient. On my first trip to the store, I bought the feta, tomatoes, crusty french bread and dry white wine. I mean, I had tomatoes, but I didn't have two pounds of them! Then I went back an hour later and bought the red onion. I could have sworn I had one, but there was not one to be found in my kitchen.
I will do just about anything to avoid Central Market on a weekend so I made both of my grocery runs on Sunday to Whole Foods instead. I understood the fascination with Central Market when they first opened and totally got why there were people walking around slowly just looking at everything like they were in a foreign country. But that place has been open for years now. Why do people still go in there for entertainment? It's not an amusement park! It's a grocery store! Buy what you came for and get out of the way!!!!! My first trip to the store on Sunday I went to the Whole Foods at Preston and Park. It is almost as bad as Central Market. I had 5 things in a little hand held basket. I stood in line for 10 minutes at the express lane with one person in front of me waiting to check out. It is bad enough that the moron in front of me has 22 items at the express lane, (yes, I did count them) but for the checker to stop checking every few minutes and chat with her is unacceptable! Nothing in my basket required ice, but when the checker asked me if I needed ice for anything I was purchasing I was tempted to answer "Yes! Now that I have spent so much time in line, I do need ice!!!!" I always consider it a victory if I get through the express lane and pass the person who checked out in front of me before I get to my car. That proves my "express" experience. I passed the lady with 22 items before I even reached the exit! Winning!!!!!
Once I realized that I didn't have a red onion, I almost scrapped the entire meal. I just didn't feel like I could face another Sunday trip to the grocery store. But I decided to go to the Whole Foods at Coit and Beltline and OMG! What a difference! I don't go to that one too often because it is small and the selection isn't as great. But that also means that they don't have all of the looky lou's. Everyone there is there simply to buy some groceries. What a novel thought! I was in and out with my red onion in less than 2 minutes. It is also much closer to my house than the Whole Foods in Plano. I really have to stop going to that one. I get angry everytime I go. Let's face it, if you are counting the number of items that someone in the express lane is purchasing you are a little uptight and should not be out in public.
Anyway, that is my shrimp recipe that I found yesterday. If you cook it, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I also had a nice green salad with it along with the crusty bread. It was delicious and filling. Bon appetit!

Baked Shrimp with Tomatoes and Feta
3 Tblsp Olive Oil
1 Red Onion, chopped
2 Tblsp thinly sliced garlic
2 lbs. Ripe Tomatoes halved, seeded and chopped
1/2 tsp dried Oregano
1/4 tsp sea salt
Freshly ground Pepper
1 1/2 lbs large Shrimp, peeled and deveined
1/2 lb Feta Cheese crumbled into large chunks
3 Tblsp chopped fresh Parsley
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
In a large frying pan over medium heat, warm the olive oil. Add the onion and garlic and cook, stirring often, until the onion is soft and translucent, 5-8 minutes. Stir in the tomatoes, oregano, salt and pepper to taste and simmer until slightly thickened, 5-8 minutes longer.
Pour about half of the tomato mixture into a 2 qt baking dish. Arrange the shrimp over the tomatoes and scatter the cheese over the shrimp. Spoon the remaining tomato mixture over the top and spread evenly.
Bake until the shrimp are opaque throughout but still tender when tested with a knife, about 20 minutes. Sprinkle with the parsley and serve at once, directly from the dish.
The book suggests that it is best served with a chilled white wine like restina and plenty of crusty bread for dipping into the juices. It was.

Day One-Twenty-Four - The Spice of Life?
I bought some shrimp at the grocery store on Friday and froze them. I had planned on grilling them and making some sort of grilled shrimp salad then I came home and it was still 106 degrees so I couldn't face standing over a grill even for the 6 minutes it would take to grill some shrimp. Today, I have to thaw them and cook them. But now I am not sure that I want a grilled shrimp salad.
I say I have to cook them today because I finally ran out of the pimento cheese that I have been eating for every meal since Friday. I suppose I could eat something else. But anything would require some effort on my part and since shrimp is my favorite food, I would rather put effort into shrimp than something else. I love cooking something new that I haven't made before. The problem is that when you are looking for a new recipe there is practically never any chance that you will have all of the ingredients it calls for. If there are 20 ingredients listed in the recipe I will have 18 of them. There could be 3 ingredients and I'll still be missing one. And how can I always be out of the one random spice that a recipe calls for when I have sitting in my spice cabinet right now the following:
Black Pepper (Empty) 1
Bay Leaves 1
Cinnamon 2
Ground Coriander 3
Imitation Brandy Flavor 1
Chili Powder 2
Ground Cloves 3
Cream of Tarter 2
Crushed Red Pepper 1
Ground Nutmeg 1
Cinnamon Sticks 1
Parsley 2
Almond Extract 1
Whole Nutmeg 2
Poppy Seed 3
Mint Extract 1
Ground Ginger 1
Sage 1
Fennel Seed 1
Sesame Seed 1
Ground Marjoram 1
Ground Oregano 1
Ground Red Pepper 1
Juniper Berries 1
Imitation Butter Flavoring 1
Poultry Seasoning 2
Garlic Powder 2
Celery Seed 1
Curry Powder 1
Onion Juice 1
Tarragon 2
Rosemary 1
Rum Favoring 1
Slap Ya Mama 1
Chicken Bullion Cubes 1
Dill Weed 1
Cayenne Pepper 2
Vanilla 1
Cilantro 2
Baking Powder 1
Table Salt 2
Baking Soda 2
Montreal Steak Seasoning 1
Old Bay Seasoning 1
Gumbo Fillet 1
Whole Pepper 1
Ground Mustard 1
Ground Cumin 2
Imitation Coconut Extract 2
Aniseed 1
Marjoram Flakes 1
Paprika 2
White Pepper 1
Ground Turmeric 1
Pumpkin Pie Spice 1
Allspice 1
Yeast 2 (one jar and three envelopes, I'm calling it 2)
Sea Salt 1
Basil Leaf flakes 1
Herbs of Provence 1
Tony Chachere's Seasoning 1
Beef Bullion Cubes 1
Cocoa 1
Garlic Salt 1
Lemon Pepper 1
Peppermint Extract 1
Seasoning Salt 1
Various bottles of food coloring 22
Various bottles of cookie sprinkles 7
I know that all of this is in there because I just inventoried my cabinet.... then I took the picture of all of this crap sitting out afterwards..... How can one person collect so many spices and then still not have what she needs when looking for a new recipe? The two most upsetting things in the list are the Ground Coriander and the Ground Cumin. These upset me because I recall looking for both of these on several occasions and then going to the store specifically to buy them because I assumed I was out. So now, I have 3 jars of coriander and 2 jars of cumin. I say jars, because these aren't little tiny spice cans. They are big jars!
I don't know what's up with the poppy seeds. I think I have put poppy seeds in muffins once. But for some reason I have gone to the store at least 2 other times and thought to myself, "I must have poppy seeds" and bought them. I totally get why I need that much paprika. I'm from Texas. It is impossible to make deviled eggs, potato salad, pork 'n bean salad, pea salad or any other weird mayonnaise based salad without sprinkling some on top when I am finished. They would take my native Texan status away from me if I tried. So, I must always have a spare jar of paprika for emergencies.
I'm a Tony Chachere's girl. I've been using it in practically everything I cook for years. But a while back someone suggested that Slap Ya Mama was better so I bought some and gave it a try. Don't fall for it people!!!!! Stick with Tony Chachere! If I am not mistaken, I count 6 different extracts / imitation flavorings. I use the coconut regularly when I make this coconut Weight Watchers cake that I love. And of course Vanilla gets used every time I bake. But the others are anybodies guess. What would have ever made me buy fake butter flavoring????? I think my body must have been taken over by aliens when that happened.
You might be happy to know that after I finished taking this inventory, I combined any open jars of the same seasoning that I could. There were only a few that had enough gone from them to combine, but I am now down to only one jar of whole nutmeg and one bottle of coconut extract.
I don't know what possesses me to keep an empty can of black pepper in the cabinet. Maybe I put it back in there in hopes that it the pepper fairy would come by and refill it. She didn't. When I put everything back in the cabinet after I completed my inventory a few minutes ago, I put it back in again. Like the little bitch would fly by this time and fill it. So, I am going to have to go to the store today and buy some black pepper. Of course, I will probably leave the store with two more jars of coriander to add to my collection. Wish me luck and have a nice Sunday!
I say I have to cook them today because I finally ran out of the pimento cheese that I have been eating for every meal since Friday. I suppose I could eat something else.

Day One-Twenty-Three - Random Junk in My Head
It is possible to develop ADD as an adult? I cannot seem to concentrate on anything lately. For instance I have begun this post six times so far this morning. Each time I get a couple of paragraphs into it and either decide that I don't like how it is going, or that it will be of no interest to anyone including myself. If I go to sleep midway through the second paragraph, it probably will not hold your interest. Maybe my issue is not so much Attention Deficit Disorder as it is boredom.
I have spent the last several hours going through photos on Snapfish looking for a few more to order for framing in my living room. I was going to write about that because it should not be as difficult as I seem to have made it. How can this be taking me hours???? But then when I read back what I have written, I wonder why anyone would want to read it. It is boring! So, I will spare you the details of my photo search. I will also spare you more details on how fabulous my new air conditioner is because I am bored with that too.
I will even spare you cat stories because I don't want you all to start referring to me as your once normal friend who became a "cat lady". You see, the worst thing anyone can ever call me is a "cat lady". I worry all the time about people thinking that I have become one of those people. I actually go out of my way to avoid the stereotype. This isn't easy to do since I am a single woman in her late 40's with two cats that I love very much.
If I was a "cat lady" I am pretty sure I would have 15 cats because I would always take all of the cats that my friends try to push off on me. Is it just me or does everyone get constant emails from friends about a stray cat that needs a home, kittens who need a home, or an old cat that someone can no longer keep due to a new allergy or a new apartment that doesn't allow cats? I get it people, you know I like cats. But I cannot have a house full of them. I don't even want a house full of them. I like my two cats. No more. By the way, I also like dogs. I don't think that "cat ladies" ever wish they had a dog. They probably also don't tune into Animal Planet every Saturday morning in search of shows about different dog breeds. I do that!
I just like animals. I think most normal people do. Which makes me wonder what is wrong with a person who abuses a pet. We've all seen the pictures of puppies or kittens who have been beaten and abused. I just don't understand what kind of a sick human you have to be to want to harm a creature who if given the chance would love you unconditionally. Nothing upsets me more than hearing Alyssa Milano's voice on TV. It always means that one of those ASPCA commercials is on. You know the ones where they show the abused animals. I can't watch them. The other thing I can't watch is My Cat From Hell on Animal Planet. If you are too stupid to realize that you cannot keep a Bengal cat in a small apartment with no place for him to exercise without him going insane and tearing your house to pieces, I certainly don't want to watch an hour long show featuring you and the poor cat. I'm also very concerned about a grown man who carries a guitar case full of cat toys around..... just saying....
So, this is officially the post about nothing at all. There is a movie on TV that I can't get interested in because I have seen it too many times. I am bored with the Olympics. They lost me when they started showing a "sport" where people jump on a trampoline. I don't get how that can be an Olympic sport. I also don't understand Badminton as an Olympic sport. And more than anything, I cannot understand what would make a person cheat at Badminton much less 8 people cheat to win a Badminton medal. Really?!?!?!?? You want a Badminton medal so badly that you will throw matches for a more favorable match up? How pathetic must you be?
I know more about Ryan Lochte's personal life than I ever wanted to know. But I think the most surprising thing to come out of that is that I didn't even realize that Dr. Ruth was still alive, much less relevant. She must be 150 and she is commenting on Lochte's sex life and the fact that his mother is apparently his "wingman" - that is Dr. Ruth's word, not mine! I need to find out what kind of vitamins Dr. Ruth takes to be on her way to becoming the worlds oldest person. I've got to get me some of those..... P.S. How many of your grandparents tweet???? She tweets!
And can anybody tell me when the day will come in which I will never have to see another Williams sister on a tennis court? They annoy me. I don't know why they annoy me, but they do. I think I don't like them because of their dad. I also don't like that professional athletes are allowed to participate in the Olympics. I guess they had to allow professional athletes for ratings. But I don't like it.
I am also grossed out by armpits. I know, it is weird. You don't need to tell me this. But all athletes need to stop wearing tank tops and then raising their arms in victory. I don't want to see your deodorant residue or hairy pits. Ugh! This first became an issue for me years ago when Tonya Harding was figure skating in the winter Olympics the year that she broke that other girls kneecaps. She had a serious deodorant residue problem and always wore a sleeveless outfit. Then when she finished skating she would lift her arms and all I could see was that white film under her arms. GROSS!!!! Isn't it sad that I remember her name, but I don't remember the name of the girl that she had her goon attack? Weird.
The thing that I think is the strangest thing is that water polo gets so much air time. Is anyone interested? I have watched more water polo and volleyball in the last week than in all 49 years of my life combined prior to this week. Who cares???!?!?! How can all of these sports be featured in the Olympics when softball and baseball are not Olympic sports at all? What the hell???? And also, I can understand archery being an Olympic sport, but it should be done with a plain old fashioned bow and arrow like the Native Americans used, not those hyped up, scoped out, crossbow things! Hell, I could hit the bullseye with one of those things! Where's the challenge in that?
Okay, I am finished with my rants and with expressing all of my random thoughts. Enjoy your Saturday. If I don't post tomorrow it will because I am still horribly bored and I have already expressed the things that bug me most about the Olympics.

Day One-Twenty-Two - Nacogdoches Trip Report?
Ahhhhh..... Cool at last! It took a while last night to finally get the house cool. In fact when I went to bed it was still 86 degrees downstairs. But now it is a pleasant 76 degrees with the air conditioner cycling normally. How nice!
In the meantime. I had a great time at my parents house. I got sort of bored a few times since I left in such a hurry that I did not take a book. But I had some knitting to work on. If it had been a complicated pattern that I was working on, it would have kept my interest better. But just knitting row after row became a little tedious. The best thing about this trip was that we discovered it is possible to take Jingle and Shiner with me when I go there. So, now I can stay more than a night or two without having to get someone to take care of the cats at home. Although I have some friends who always volunteer to take care of the cats for me when I leave town, I always feel like I am taking advantage of them, and therefore have trouble enjoying myself. My other option is to pay a pet sitter which means I don't worry at all. But at $25 a visit, twice a day I feel like I could Priceline a decent hotel at that rate.
I did walk twice during the 6 days I was at Mom and Dad's house. The first day, I walked 1.6 miles. On the second day, I walked 2.2 miles. Both times, the walk was sooooo nice! When I walk outside here, I see house after house and nothing else. There I saw very few houses, a couple of cars and lots of trees, animals, and scenery. I lose my data signal on my cell phone the minute I walk into my parents house. I don't know what it is about their house. But I secretly believe that my dad has put some sort of grounding system in the attic that will not allow anyone to get onto the Internet while in their home. They hate it when people stare at their phones all the time.
So, both times I walked I posted on Facebook while I was walking since I was finally able to get on FB. The problem was that I am a little challenged to just walk without falling down, walking and entering a message on my phone at the same time is impossible. So that meant I had to stop, in the shade so that I could see the screen in order to post anything to FB. On the second day, I had stopped to do this and when I finished and looked up, a huge snake was about 5 feet in front of me crossing the road. I don't know how long he had been there. But I was glad that he obviously had no interest in me. I was so shocked that I didn't even think to take a picture with my cell phone. But I did finally think about taking a few pictures later during my walk. So here is some of the scenery during my walk on Wednesday on my parents road.
The picture to the left is the wooden bridge that you have to cross to get to their house. It is obviously one lane and if there is a car coming from the other direction, you have to pull over and wait your turn. I wonder how that would go over in Frisco. Ha ha! The self absorbed soccer mom's would never even notice that they ran two cars off of the bridge into the creek as they speed along the road with their cell phone to their ear. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against soccer or being a mom. The problem is with the cell phone that apparently has been surgically attached to her ear making her oblivious to everything else going on around her. The picture below is the creek that this bridge goes over. I take vacations and go to amazing places so that I can take pictures of scenes as pretty as this one. Meanwhile, I took this picture with my cell phone during my morning walk at my parents house in my home town. I guess maybe I should stop and look at the things around me from time to time.
The picture below was a morning glory that was growing wild next to the bridge. I love this picture! Next time I go to their house, I think I will take my good camera and tripod to set up in their backyard. They have bird feeders in their backyard and get the most amazing birds on them. This year, they have been seeing beautiful Indigo Buntings which, as their name suggests, are a solid deep blue. In the past they have seen some Painted Buntings which are very colorful but rare to see in east Texas. They also have constant deer wondering by. Currently, there is a doe with her fawn that comes by regularly to feast on Mom's sunflowers. This is upsetting to Mom, but I think it is greatness! Her sunflowers are burning up now anyway, so it isn't as big of an issue as it was a few weeks ago. But it still bothers Mom and Dad for the deer to come by and eat their plants.
I suppose I can understand their frustration. But I think if I lived in a place like that, I would plant stuff just for the deer to eat so that I could see them regularly. My brother has seen a panther near their house before one evening as he was leaving. I think that is so cool! I would love to see one. Apparently, there have been quite a few sightings of this panther. A lot of the people in the area have cattle so I guess they don't think it is so cool.
I should get busy now. I have a lot to do now that I have working A/C again. Have a great Friday!

Day One-Twenty-One - Hot and Sweaty Part 25
I hopped out of bed bright and early this morning with no regard for the fact that I only slept 4 hours last night. Today, the cats and I drove back from Nacogdoches to meet the A/C guy and get the summer from hell over with. I left town in tears and in a hurry last Friday. I was in tears simply due to the frustration at being told that it could be a full week before I got my new A/C compressor. I guess I should start at the beginning.
First of all, on June 26th, my air conditioner went out. I have a home warranty. So, I called 1st American, the home warranty company. They sent someone out on the 27th. He replaced a wire in the compressor and added some Freon. Then a few days later, it stopped cooling again, so I called them back. They sent another man from the same A/C company out. He also added Freon and said the problem was that my compressor was dirty even though I clean it twice a year. He showed me where some leaves had built up around the base and said that a chemical cleaning would cost $135 and the warranty company didn't cover that. I told him to clean it. He couldn't do that until the next day. So, on Saturday, he cleaned the compressor. While he was here on Friday, I expressed concern that Freon had been added twice in 3 days and that seemed excessive to me. I suggested that if it was necessary to add Freon that often, perhaps something should be done about the leak I apparently had. He said that the previous guy (from his own company) probably just said he added Freon and didn't really do it. That gave me a warm fuzzy.....
So, then I went out of town on the following Tuesday for the 4th of July. When I returned on July 5th, my house was hot, the A/C was running full blast and the coil which is located upstairs in a closet had leaked profusely through my kitchen ceiling. I called 1st American back and insisted that they send someone from a reputable company this time. That was on a Thursday. They finally got someone here on Sunday. (Maybe they were having trouble locating a "reputable" air conditioning company.) He said the coil needed to be replaced and left. The following Monday evening, Benito "the Magnificent" arrived. He tried to install the new coil in the closet upstairs but was unable to even get the old one out since he was alone and the furnace had to be removed in order to get to the A/C unit. So, the next day he came back and brought.... are you ready for this???? He brought his 16 year old son, Juan to help him. Benito and Juan, took the old unit out and replaced it with a new coil that is bigger and much better than the old one. It is a R410A system. That meant nothing to me a few weeks ago. Now it means a lot!
So, that worked like you cannot begin to imagine until last Wednesday night. I noticed a few days earlier that the new unit seemed to be working harder than just after Benito finished. But on Wednesday night as I slept the temperature in the house crept up and up and up until it was in the low 80's on Thursday morning. So, Thursday, I called 1st American yet again. I might not have been as nice as usual on that occasion. Someone from Lumart (Benito's company) was here within 3 hours. After a few hours, he finally figured out that now the compressor had gone out and needed to be replaced. I asked how long he thought it would take to get a new one. He said that given the circumstances he was certain they would put a rush on it and have it within a day or two.
On Friday at lunchtime, I still had not gotten a call back from anyone. So, I called Lumart, they said they had notified 1st American the day before and were waiting for a PO for the new compressor. I called 1st American and was told that they had the work order but were having trouble "locating a compressor like my old one". I asked how long this could take. That is when I started to cry. She told me that it could take a week. So, I hung up the phone, called my dad and he said to put the cats in the car and come to Nacogdoches.
Jingle and Shiner liked being at their Nana and Papa's house except on the one occasion in which Mom and Dad's giant cat, Regis came in the house to eat and I forgot that he was in the house and left the bedroom door open. Then Jingle came out of the bedroom and he and Regis had a very UGLY encounter. Regis may have thought Jingle was his supper, I'm not sure.... That wasn't all that pleasant. But beyond that, it was a nice little vacation for them. I called both Lumart and 1st American each day while I was there to check in on the progress. Monday Lumart called and said that 1st American had finally sent them a PO for the new unit and it was for an R22. It turns out the reason they were having so much trouble locating a new unit like my old one was that R22 systems are being phased out due to a new law that has to do with Freon. So, they were trying to get me the old outdated obsolete one so that it would be exactly like my old one. Well, my new coil in the house is the new updated R410A system which requires the updated compressor. So, Lumart asked that I call 1st American and tell them that they had gotten the wrong system. So, finally yesterday after a very long talk with a supervisor at 1st American and him talking to his boss and calling Lumart, 1st American got the correct system ordered.
Benito is currently working on installing it. The new compressor is beautiful! He says that I won't believe how much more efficient it is. As it is, since I haven't used much air conditioning this summer, my electric bill has been very reasonable. Of course, it has been hotter than hell in my house. The nice thing is that if you can stay hydrated tears and sweat cool your body quite nicely. Tomorrow, I will hopefully be bragging to you about how great life is when you have a totally new A/C unit both indoors and out! Have a great afternoon!
